Just as Penn E&R advocates for environmental stewardship, we also strongly support our military. Penn E&R sponsored a hole at the 32nd Annual Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Liberty Golf Classic on June 18.
The event, hosted by the organization’s Philadelphia Post, drew over 100 golfers and other supporters to Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester. Penn E&R Senior Engineering Consultant George C. Cressman Jr., PE, a retired Army Colonel and longtime SAME Board member, volunteered at the day-long outing.
The annual event supports the SAME Philadelphia Post’s Scholarship Fund, which awards about $40,000 in scholarships annually to deserving Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) students from area colleges and universities, according to the group’s website.
SAME unites architecture, engineering, construction, facility management and environmental entities and individuals in the public and private sectors to prepare for and overcome natural and manmade disasters and to improve national security at home and abroad. Founded in 1920, the society’s mission is to promote and facilitate engineering support for national security by developing and enhancing relationships and competencies among uniformed services, public- and private-sector engineers and related professionals and by developing future engineers through outreach and mentoring.
