Bioaugmentation Injection Implementation
Antimicrobial-Fogging Unit Sterilization

This project was completed over the course of three mobilizations.  The first involved the injection of an emulsified vegetable oil (EVO) into 12 wells across the project site.  The second mobilization encompassed the injection of BAC-9 bacteria, a microbial consortium of Dehalococcoides mccartyi enriched to completely degrade tetrachloroethylene and trichloroethylene to ethane, in two wells.  During the third mobilization, Penn E&R injected SDC-9, bacteria comparable to BAC-9, into seven wells and an EVO solution into eight wells.

KEY PROJECT FEATURES:

  • Preliminary pilot testing to evaluate site conditions, injection rates, effectiveness of bacteria strain, etc.
  • Development of Health and Safety Plan and Work Plan
  • Mobilization tasks, including site-specific Health and Safety Training
  • EVO solution injections and monitoring
  • Bioaugmentation system implementation and monitoring
  • Pumping of chase water in each injection well to flush residual EVO to prevent biofouling
  • Demobilization tasks
  • Data analysis and reporting
  • Report development
