Penn E&R provided environmental and engineering services for an approximately 15-mile water conveyance pipeline project. Our scope of work included the engineering design of the pipeline, generating required permits with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for the construction of the pipeline through sensitive environmental areas, obtaining multiple utility crossings and Highway Occupancy Permits through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, and providing construction oversight, including professional certification of the pipeline installation.
KEY PROJECT FEATURES:
- Archaeological and rare or endangered species concerns
- Crossing of a federal highway and numerous state and local roadways
- Numerous stream encroachments and crossings
- Pipeline route traversed across portions of the State Game Lands, several private residential properties and industrial properties
- 26-inch diameter HDPE pipe designed to convey 8,500 gallons per minute (gpm)
- Pipeline design implemented multiple horizontal borings to eliminate direct stream and road crossing impacts
- Pipeline design included attachments to existing bridge and tunnel structures to span roads and streams
