Starting July 1, 2018, facilities located within the Susquehanna River Basin will have to pay to register their water withdrawals and/or consumptive uses as part of a new registration program.
To more effectively manage the Basin’s resources, the Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) launched a registration program on January 1, 2018 requiring older, unpermitted facilities—also referred to as grandfathered—to register their water withdrawals and/or consumptive uses by December 31, 2019. Timely registration preserves grandfathered users’ existing exemption status.
Registration Fees
The first of several registration deadlines is quickly approaching. The following fees are based on when a facility registers within the two-year window:
- By June 30, 2018: $0
- July 1 – December 31, 2018: $500
- January 1 – December 31, 2019: $1,000
What Happens if I Do Not Register?
Grandfathered users that fail to register by December 31, 2019 will lose their exemption from review and approval and need to obtain a permit from the SRBC to be able to continue to operate.
