
Penn E&R was retained by a confidential client to construct an asphalt walking trail through a heavily wooded section of a local nature center in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Penn E&R was selected based on its past success completing similar construction projects.
KEY PROJECT TASKS:
- Completion of initial topographic survey of the site through densely wooded areas
- Realignment of trail in some areas to preserve aged trees
- Clearing and grubbing of path area
- Excavation to subbase to prepare area for stone and asphalt
- Over-excavation of approximately 4,000 cubic yards of unsuitable material to achieve a stable subbase
- Placement of subbase aggregate, including stone, to effectively “bridge” the subbase to make it stable for stone and asphalt placement
- Installation of piping to allow for proper drainage in densely wooded areas, including outlet structures and rip-rap
- Assisted design engineer with correction of site drainage problems by installing approximately 1,300 linear feet of wrapped underdrain pipe and approximately 4,200 square yards of stabilization geotextile
- Placement of additional 1,600-square-yard asphalt pathway on opposing side of the nearby lake, in addition to original 7,800 square yards of asphalt pathway per original contract requirements
- Installation of miscellaneous park benches and signage
- Site restoration tasks including permanent seeding and mulching
